Lady Buffs win State Class 2 quarterfinal

Lady Buffaloes Coach Carrie Dalton joins the team in cheering a point in a game earlier this season.
The five-set win sets up a rematch with Radford in the state semifinal.

Floyd County’s Lady Buffaloes volleyball squad lost their first two matches against Union High at Big Stone Gap Saturday but regrouped and took the next three sets to win 3-2 and advance in the Region 2 Quarterfinals.

After losing the first set 25-17, the Lady Buffs closed in a possible win in the second but fell short 25-22, then took control in the third with a 25-14 win, then a 25-20 victory before hanging on to clip the Union squad 15-13.

Haylee Dalton credited trust in God. “He bought us through,” she told The Bristol Herald Courier.

Coach Carrie Dalton added:

They never give up. They keep working and working and working, and they just knew point by point they had it. So I was very proud of them for never giving up and just keep working.

Haylee Dalton’s 25 kills led the Lady Buffs efforts with Jaycee Dalton adding 21.

The win pits the Lady Buffaloes against Radford’s Bobcats for a rematch the regional final. Floyd beat Radford twice in the regular season but lost to the Bulldogs in the regional final.
