Floyd County High School opened the boys and girls varsity basketball season at home Monday evening with solid wins over Patrick County.
The Buffaloes took down the Cougars 76-46 in overwhelming fashion with freshman Kaiden Swortzel went 9 for 9 from the field with 18 points to lead the Buffaloes stampede. Josiah Banks had 16 points, Dylan Bond 14 points, and Tanyan Sutphin 13 points along with eight steals and seven assists. Floyd outscored the Cougars 33-10 in the second quarter to open up a 26-point halftime lead.
The Lady Buffs took down the Lady Cougars 52-29.
Alexis Kiser scored 20 points — including 6 for 6 at the free-throw line — as the Buffaloes opened up a 14-point lead by halftime.
The girls face William Fleming on the road Wednesday night in Roanoke and return home Friday to face Auburn. Game time is 7:30.
