Floyd’s Town Council, in a 10-minute special session Monday, unanimously approved appointment of Lance Terpenny as the town’s fourth town manager in five years.
Terpenny goes on the job in Floyd on Aug. 2 and will be paid $50,000 a year. He earned 130 grand yearly as Christiansburg’s Town Manager. Two weeks ago, the Christiansburg Town Council uanimously asked for his resignation job he has held there for 14 years, saying they had “lost confidence” in his ability to run the town. Terpenny’s appearance at tonight’s Christiansburg Town Council meeting will be his last as their town manager.
Terpenny, who interviewed for the job in Floyd three weeks earlier and was offered the job here the next day, called Floyd Town Mayor Will Griffin following his ouster in Christiansburg and accepted.
Floyd’s new town manager says he has no intention of trying to turn Floyd into another Christiansburg.
“They (residents of Floyd) see the development in Christiansburg and are rightfully concerned about preserving their town,” Terpenny told The Roanoke Times following his appointment Monday night. “I think they’ll quickly learn that I have no intention of bringing Christiansburg to Floyd.”
