Football Buffaloes close out seas0n with loss

Jaden Brewer scores Floyd's first touchdown.

Floyd County High School’s football Buffaloes began the truncated COVID-19 season in a game they led at the end of the first half but came up short at the end and ended the 2021 run Friday night with a 24-13 home game loss to Bassett Bengals at after leading 6-0 at halftime and again after three quarters.

Floyd scored first on an Avery Chafin pass to Jared Nichols in the second quarter, but a two-point conversion attempt, giving the Buffaloes a 6-0 lead at the half. The Buffs added another touchdown, with a successful extra point in the third quarter, as did Bassett, but led 13-7 going into the fourth, but Bassett scored 17 points while Floyd added nothing to the board in the final period.

The Buffs did not qualify for the playoffs and the Bassett game became a last minute regular season match to end the season. More details and photos in next week’s Floyd Press.
