Mother Nature’s calling card

The severe thunderstorms that roared through Floyd County and much of the rest of Southwestern Virginia Thursday didn’t drop that much rain on our property but the howling wind snapped a Poplar in half along our driveway and ripped the inner part of the tree from his bark.

The falling core narrowly missed a trailer and one of our outbuildings and left limbs scattered along the driveway. Elsewhere, the storms left downed trees and power lines along with power outages that left Mabry Mill without power and closed Friday.

In Montgomery County, winds destroyed a “prayer tent” in a residential backyard. Franklin County’s emergency dispatch center went dark after the storm knocked our power and a backup generator failed.  Lightning struck a barn in Botetourt County, destroying the structure, two tractors, a hay baler, a hay rake and a horse trailer.
