022506berniecoveney.jpgJoined David and Gretchen St. Lawrence for an early evening meal and the music of guitarist Bernie Coveney at Over the Moon last night — the latest Friday night music spot on Floyd’s growing list of end-of-the-week venues.

The evening is a short one — two hours starting at 6 p.m. — but provides plenty of time for stimulating conversation, good sandwich and dessert fare and the always excellent music from Bernie (right) , the former guitar player for Emmylou Harris who recently opened a music school with fellow musician Chris Luster at The Jacksonville Center.

By 7 p.m., patrons occupied every table at the art gallery cafe. One might not expect success for what is really a throwback to the old coffee house, folk-music, days in a town more famous for the bluegrass music of the Friday night Jamboree but such diversity continues to amaze oldtimers and newcomers alike. Besides the footstomping, clogging sounds of traditional music and bluegrass that flows out the Country Store each Friday night, you can find jazz, contemporary or other forms of musical entertainment while dining at Oddfellas Cantina or enjoy another coffeehouse experience at Sally Walker’s Cafe del Sol.

Lots of choices for a pleasant way to end the week.
