Deceptive beauty


Sunlight plays off the ice that coats trees near our home but the beauty of the ice is deceptive as the storm left 5,000 homes without power and, as of this writing, 4,800 remain dark with Appalachian Power saying power won’t be restored to many until sometime Friday.

FUBAR by AEP (Always Erratic Power)

Obviously, the nitwits who run Appalachian Power failed to prepare for the ice storm that knocked out power to some 12,000 customers in Southwestern Virginia Tuesday night, including 5,000 homes in Floyd County — about a third of our population.

No, not Keifer Sutherland saving the world. Our generator has been generating for 24 hours straight, providing us with power while all those around us are dark.

AEP reports 4,800 homes without power in and around Floyd. They’ve managed to restore only about 200 homes since 2 p.m. today and they don’t expect to have power restored to all homes until about 6 p.m. Friday.

Our propane tank shows 80 percent capacity remaining so we should be all right until power is restored as long as the generator can keep pumping out 16kw of power for the next couple of days.
